Gloria Jean Mock arrived in her heavenly home on March 11, 2017. Known by Jean, she was born in Atlanta at Crawford Long on Oct. 16, 1945 to George and Mary Leckenby. She met the love of her life, Sol Mock at a church yardsale in December of 1962. Just a few short months later, on March 17, 1963, they were joined in marriage. Together they raised five children.

Before her health began to decline, Jean enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and cleaning. She would spend hours sitting at the kitchen table putting together jigsaw puzzles. Later in life, she collected bird figurines and her favorite flower was yellow roses.

She dearly loved her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nanny.” She babysat all of them and they could get away with things that their parents could not. Her grandchildren will all tell you that she made the best banana pudding, oatmeal cookies and brownies. Although raised in church, she did not accept Christ as her personal Savior until 2015 when she was a patient in the ICU after speaking with her grandson Jacob.

Preceded in death were her parents George and Mary Leckenby and her daughter Patricia “Trish” Mock Vanderwater. Left to cherish her memory: her loving husband of almost 54 years, Sol Mock, of Oxford; her children Debra and James Smith, of Sugar Hill; Cindy Mock, of Oxford; Vivian and David Alcantara II, of Covington; and Don Mock, of Oxford. Nine grandchildren: Tori Amezguita and fiancé Robert Wong, of Duluth; Tabatha Lummus, of Park City, Utah; Brittany and Nicholas Vanderwater, of Oxford; Jesse and Jacob Blankenship, of Lithonia; Jacob Mock, of Conyers; and David “Pancho” and Eva Jean Alcantara, of Covington.

Jean was also blessed with four beautiful great grandchildren: Julian Amezquita, Jazlyn Wong, Jaxon Blankenship and Joseph Vanderwater.

Siblings: Cathy (Jim) Manning, of Colorado, Dian (Al) Sage, of Missouri, John (Beverly) Leckenby, of Pennsylvania, and David (Usa) Leckenby of Virginia, and many nieces, nephews and other loved ones.

Graveside services were held on March 18, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington with Nathan Careell, Jacob Mock and Tracy Puckett officiating. A family dinner followed at Calvary Baptist Church in Conyers, located at 315 Oglesby Bridge Road.

Serving as pall bearers are her loving son Don Mock, her brother David Leckenby, son-in-law Davin Alcantara II, grandsons Jacob Mock and David Alcantara III and family friend David Bryant.

Jean will be greatly missed and always loved by her family.
