Mrs. Evelyn Childers of Oxford passed away at Newton Medical Center on June 19, 2009, at the age of 77. She was born in Newton County to the Late Travis and Euphie Erma Lunsford Christian. A member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church she attended the Harvesters Sunday School Class, played the piano for the Wednesday night church services and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano at Covington Manor and the senior center at Turner Lake. She also enjoyed drawing, sewing, singing and cooking. She dearly loved her family.

Mrs. Childers is survived by her loving husband, W. A. (Dud) Childers, Jr. of Oxford; daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Oral Elder of Covington, Libbey and Jason Piotrowski of Brandon, MS.; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Teresa Childers of Walterboro, SC., Ricky and Melissa Childers of Hampton; 11 grandchildren, Buzz, Beth, Travis, Jake, Seth, Josh, Vince, DeAnn, Denise, Christian, Lilly; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Mobley of New Jersey; brothers, Glenn Christian of Conyers, Jack Christian of Covington; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Childers will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2009, 2:00 P. M. at Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church in Porterdale with Rev. James A. Moore, Rev. Richard Harris and Rev. John Ozley officiating with Entombment to follow in Memory Chapel Mausoleum at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
