Charlen Miles Crenshaw, 91, passed away August 4, 2016. Born July 16, 1925, to Howard Miles and Frances Daniel Miles, Charlen was a 1943 graduate of Girl’s High School in Atlanta. She worked as a model in Atlanta throughout the 1940s and 1950s, and later worked in Executive Reservations for Delta Airlines.

Charlen grew up at All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta, but later attended First Baptist Church of Covington, where she was a dedicated member of the church choir. She was also a founding member of the Covington-Conyers Choral Guild, with which she sang for 22 years. Charlen was a former president of the Service Guild, and she also coordinated the 1970 Census in Newton County.

An avid card player, Charlen was in seven bridge clubs. She loved travelling and shopping, especially when she was able to travel and shop with her loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Mary Helen Miles Lane and Frances Jane Miles Priest. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Crenshaw; son, Rick Deemer and his wife, Mary; son Rob Deemer and his wife, Nancy; son David Deemer and his wife, Patti; daughter Cathy Crenshaw Laseter; nine grandchildren: Michele Deemer; Paige Deemer Caras and her husband, Mike; Gray Deemer and his wife, Amberly; Barclay Deemer Allen; Kelly Davidson Duvall and her husband, Jerry; Waites Laseter and his wife, Brittany; Helen Laseter and her fiancé, Scott Smith; Julianna Laseter; Catherine Laseter; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Charlen will be held Monday, August 8, 2016, 11 a.m., at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree St., NW, in Atlanta. Friends may join the family for visitation at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Sunday, August 7, from 5–7 p.m.
