Barbara F. Avery of Statham, formerly of Covington, passed away April 8, 2010, at the age of 78. Mrs. Avery was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington where she taught the teenage Sunday School class for 40 years; and was also a member of the Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Avery resided in Covington for 53 years before moving to Statham in 2007. Upon moving, she made new friends, but it was most important to her to remain close to her high school friends and friends of Covington. Mrs. Avery also enjoyed playing golf. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Terry H. Avery; and her parents, Robert Bernard and Audrey (Shaw) Fowler. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Ken Justice of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Gina Avery of Statham; sister, Hazel Wells of Harlem; grandchildren, Caleb Avery, Hunter Lawson, Cole Avery, Matthew Lawson, Brianna Avery; two nephews and one niece. Funeral Services for Mrs. Avery will be held Sunday, April 11, 2010, 3:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Covington, with Rev. J.J. Wilson officiating, and entombment following at Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Saturday, April 10, from 4-7 PM.
