School board will honor Turner

COVINGTON, Ga. — The Newton County school board will have a special meeting Monday to honor one of its own.

Board members will gather at 8:45 a.m. Monday to consider a resolution in honor of the late Almond Turner, a sixth-term board member who died Nov. 23.

Turner retired in 2016 after 19 years as assistant police chief in Covington. He was a native of Newton County and graduate of Cousins High School.

The meeting will take place at the district’s central office, 2109 Newton Drive NE, Covington.

Turner’s funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers. Turner was a deacon at the church
