Ruby Jones was named Nurse of the Year for 2014 by the Rotary Club of Covington Tuesday.

Jones, recommended by Christina Bradford, has been at Newton Medical Center since August 1999, and currently is a charge nurse in the Emergency Department.

According to Bradford’s recommendation, Jones mentors new staff, is knowledgeable and has excellent nursing skills among many other attributes.

“Ruby exemplifies a nurse who is leading the way,” said Bradford in her recommendation letter. “All nurses should follow the example set by Ruby. Her punctuality, perfect attendance, excellent patient care, calmness under pressure, respectfulness of others, team and patient focus are characteristics of a modern day Florence Nightingale.”

Jones has served on several committees at the hospital, served on a Six Sigma team and was chosen as an employee of the month.
