The area of Ga. Highway 162 in front of Tempie Lane was clogged Thursday morning, as deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office stopped drivers on the highway to hand out flyers, soliciting information on the double homicide that occurred in the out-of-the-way neighborhood Tuesday morning.

"This case is a little different in that the nature of the crime and the lack of witnesses has prompted us to go further in an attempt to identify and interview anyone with information - whether they think it's significant or not. It might be the information we need to provide a lead," said NCSO Lt. Keith Crum.

Peggy Molden, 66, and her 56-year-old nephew Donald Eugene McCollough, were found dead inside the home after deputies and EMS responded to a medical alert from inside the home around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. According to Crum, when authorities and EMS arrived, they found the door ajar and peeked inside the home, which is when they saw one of the victims on the floor. After making entry, they found the second victim. He said there appeared to be no sign of forced entry.

Molden was the caretaker for McCollough who was paralyzed and in a wheelchair. Both victims wore medical alert devices. Although the official cause of death has not been released, Crum did say both victims had obvious gunshot wounds.

"There is still nothing to indicate this is anything but a homicide," Crum said.

"During the course of the investigation we have, and will, talk to a number of people, friends, family, distant family, to try and gain information. We take what information they give us and try to see if it's valid and if it relates to the crime. We have received a number of different scenarios from people that we are looking at in this case. We are still in the analysis part of the investigation as far as trying to develop what's germane to the situation and what's just sundry events that happened in the victims' lives that may or may not be related to the crime," said Crum.

"These people were just at home minding their own business," Crum said. "The community has the potential to solve this case and that is why we're trying to solicit their assistance. Anything that seemed suspicious or out of the ordinary we want to know about... The community can help us solve this."
