The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) seeks assistance from the public to identify two suspects believed to be involved in two separate armed robberies that occurred on Oct. 6.

One robbery occurred at Cleaners for You, 3622 Salem Road in Covington at 10:30 a.m. The second occurred at the Golden Pantry, 3538 Salem Road in Covington at 10:09 p.m.

On Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m., NCSO responded to an armed robbery at Cleaners for You. The 32-year-old victim reported that two black males arrived at the business and said they had clothes that needed to be picked up. One of the males was wearing a black jacket, black shirt, black pants and brown shoes. The other male was wearing a black hoodie. According to reports, the victim said she could not find the name the pair had given in the computer, so went to check if their clothes were in the shop. Upon returning, one of the males brandished a handgun and removed money from the cash box. The men left the store in a green in color sedan heading towards Kirkland Road.

Later, at 10:09 p.m., the NCSO responded to an armed robbery at the Golden Pantry. The 46-year-old victim stated a short, black male wearing blue jeans and a gray hoodie came into the store around 10 p.m. and selected several items to purchase.According to reports, the victim said the man placed the items on the counter, walked outside without completing the purchase and returned moments later with a taller black male wearing a gray hoodie.

According to reports, the taller man acted as though he was going to pay for the items by beginning to hand over money to the victim. As the victim opened the cash register to complete the transaction, one of the men brandished a handgun and removed an undisclosed amount of money from the register. The males then left on foot, running towards Kirkland Road.

The NCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit were called to both scenes.  Both scenes were processed and evidence was collected.

The NCSO said it believes the cases are connected. No one was physically injured during either robbery.

The NCSO reports that a green sedan had been stolen out of Conyers and was recovered near the scene after the robbery at Cleaners for You. At this time, NCSO has not determined if it was the vehicle used in the robbery.
