Man shot at while taking out the trash

A Covington man was shot at while taking out the trash Tuesday.

According to reports, Covington Police responded to a call at Hardwick Circle after a man was taking his trash to the roll back dumpster in Sandra Ashby’s yard. The victim told CPD he was bringing out the trash when Ashby stepped out of her front door, pointed a pistol at him and shot it.

The victim then dropped the plastic chairs he was throwing out and ran from the scene. A witness relayed to CPD that Ashby was standing on her front porch when she fired the weapon.

CPD recovered a small .22 caliber pistol from the right side of Ashby’s door near a table on her front porch. According to reports, the pistol contained four live founds and one spent shell in the cylinder.

Ashby was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and taken to Newton County Law Enforcement Center.
