A 21-year-old male Newton County native died from injuries suffered during a single-vehicle accident Friday afternoon.

According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Michael Cunningham, the male was traveling eastbound on Henderson Mill Road when he ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle was overcorrected, crossed the street and broadsided several trees.

He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after 11 p.m., according to Cunningham. The person’s name was not released at press time due to the family not yet being notified.

“Speed and weather were believed to be factors,” Sgt. Cunningham said.
