Kiwanis Club gives $2,000 for scholarship endowment to Southern Heartland

The Kiwanis Club of Covington is Southern Heartland Arts, Inc.’s newest scholarship sponsor, as the Newton County arts organization celebrates its 11th year of providing summer art camp programs to the community.

The Kiwanis Club endowed Southern Heartland Arts’ nonprofit visual arts center with $2,000 toward scholarships for summer camp participants.

All scholarships will be awarded on the basis of need. Scholarships may be granted to any student participating in any 2016 summer camp program, including the advanced camps.

Dates for regular camps are June 6-9, June 20-23 and July 11-14. Registration fee is $150, with a $10 early bird discount for registration prior to May 15, and a $10 sibling discount for multiple children in a family. Young artists 6-12 will experience each art medium with projects in watercolor, acrylic, clay, charcoal, mixed media and collage with emphasis on color theory in a fun and creative environment with experienced art instructors.

Southern Heartland Arts also offers two advanced camps with Gallery Director and Instructor Elise Hammond. Dates are July 20-21 and July 22-23 at $150 for two day sessions, or four days for $250. Advanced camps are for teens and adults with artistic experience.
