Video submissions from two Newton County schools have won $2,000 from Big Lots and are now eligible for a $10,000 grand prize.

Alcovy High School won for a video entitled "Save the Fine Arts" and the proceeds from the prize will go to their arts program. They were also awarded an additional $60 for in-store donations, which will also go to supporting the high school’s arts program. In the school’s video, artwork by AHS students can be seen scrolling in the background with statistics of the importance of the arts in schools.

Rocky Plains Elementary School won for their video "COW-a-Bunga!" The money awarded RPES will go toward computers on wheels (C.O.W.s). Several students participated in the video and informed voters that the school has 963 children and only 223 computers, with only 43 of those up-to-date.

A final announcement will be made on Aug. 13 as to which school will win the $10,000 grand prize. Voting is closed, but the videos may still be viewed online.
