Piedmont Academy is graduating two stellar students ready to take on the science world.
The 2014 valedictorian for Piedmont Academy is Katie Odegaard, and the salutatorian is Austin Bass.
Odegaard has a perfect 4.0 GPA heading into graduation. She said she participated in drama at school, especially with the one-act play. She also is part of the literary team.
One of her favorite moments from high school, Odegaard said, was winning back-to-back state championships for a one-act play.
She will attend Gordon State College to pursue a double-major in biology and chemistry. She said a teacher, Mr. Funt, got her interested in a sciences track.
She’s ready for “more learning” in college, she said.
Born in Atlanta and now a Monticello resident, Odegaard said she reads in her spare time and that the Harry Potter series is one of her favorites.
Bass is also completing his high school career with a 4.0 GPA. He was on the varsity soccer team for five years and the cross country team for three years.
Playing his last home soccer game on senior night was his most memorable moment from high school, Bass said. But he’s ready to start a new part of his life. In the fall he will move on to Mercer University to pursue a degree in biology.
He said his school’s science track got him interested in continuing his education in the field.
The Griffin native spends his free time playing soccer on a travel team.
