The DeKalb Technical College Foundation announced a new scholarship to be given out yearly.
The Juanita G. Woods Scholarship was named in honor of a long-time DeKalb Technical College employee, who taught at the Covington Campus.
The scholarship seeks to reward academic excellence and encourage students to pursue technical education.
"Juantia was a loving and compassionate woman of God who carried herself with dignity and modest sophistication," Woods' sister, Dorothy G. Holloway said. "She lived a life of love and charity with all she met."
Woods, who passed away on Aug. 21, 2008, was known to enjoy sharing her gifts and talents with everyone around her.
According to a press release from DeKalb Technical College, Woods was often quoted as saying, "The best teachers are those who never feel they have reached their pinnacle of success, but instead continue to look for ways to enhance and improve teaching."
The scholarship will be given as a $500 award each academic year as accredit at the DeKalb Tech bookstore. Criteria and an application for the scholarship can be found on the DeKalb Tech website at www.dekalbtech.edu.
All donations for the scholarship should be sent to the DeKalb Tech Foundation at 495 N. Indian Creek Dr, Clarkston Ga. Please contact Cindy Reynolds at (404) 297-9522 ext 1113 for additional information.
