A Griffin-Spalding County middle-school principal has been named the new principal of Newton High School.

The Newton County Board of Education named Eclan David as the new NHS principal at its meeting Tuesday. The BOE unanimously approved the decision after an executive session.

Newton County Schools Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey said David has 11 years’ experience as a school administrator in the Griffin-Spalding School System, including nine years as a principal at Carver Road Middle School in Griffin.

“Mr. David is highly regarded in the Griffin- Spaulding School System, and I am pleased that he has elected to work in the Newton County School System,” Fuhrey said. “He has a proven track record, and it has prepared him well to continue the tremendous progress that the Newton County School System has made over the last three years.”

David said he hopes to be here in Newton County full-time next week. He said this will be his first time working at a high school.

David has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala.; an M.Ed. degree in educational administration and leadership from the University of West Georgia; and is pursing a Ph.D. in educational administration and policy from the University of Georgia.
