Fond farewell: The Newton County School System held a reception on Tueday honoring outgoing board of education members. District 1 Representative Johnny Smith has served one full term and half of a term left open by the death of Richard Tiede. District 3 Representative Cathy Dobbs has served two full terms and Greg Proffitt has served as the District 5 representative since Dr. C.C. Bates left the seat in June.
