DECA Delight

The Newton High School DECA Chapter, under the direction of Quinita Morrow, proved that they are off to a good start. Beginning their first community service project, several DECA members of Newton High School went to Porterdale Elementary on Sept. 2 to assist in their afterschool program. Under the assistance of Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Colbert (Porterdale instructors), 38 DECA students participated in communication skills, enrichment activities and finger painting with the students. Morrow was so pleased with the interaction of her DECA members with the students of Porterdale that they have decided to return to Porterdale on a bi-weekly basis.

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. It also helps prepare students to make wise business decisions, be able to function in the business world and teaches overall good professional skills. DECA members are looking forward to participating in future community service projects.
