COVINGTON, Ga. – Newton County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles parked at View Point Health.

According to a NCSO incident report, a deputy was dispatched to the Kirkland Road facility Jan. 22 on the report of the thefts. The complainant told the deputy he went out to start several vehicles at the location and when he started a passenger van, it sounded like “a race car with a loud exhaust.”

The complainant checked under the van and discovered the catalytic converter had been removed. He checked the other vehicles and found they were missing the part as well.

The targeted vehicles were two 2001 Ford vans and a 2005 Ford van. The thefts are believed to have occurred during a period from Jan. 16 – Jan. 22. There are no suspects.

According to one online scrap metal site, prices for used domestic vehicle catalytic converters range from $40 - $80.
