COVINGTON, Ga. — Liberty Middle School was targeted once more with a social media threat on Tuesday night, Oct. 29, following a similar threat from Monday morning.
The threat was publicized on Instagram - by a user identified as 'Josh' - and claimed the school would be attacked at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. The user claimed the threat originated from unspecified bullying incidents.
Liberty Middle students, parents and faculty can expect to see additional law enforcement at the school Wednesday, according to NCSS Director of Public Relations Sherri Davis.
"The school district is aware of the post on social media. Law enforcement has been notified," she said Tuesday night. "Additional law enforcement personnel will be at the school tomorrow to ensure the safety of students."
The Newton County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the threat.
"As any threat, we are taking it seriously and are responding accordingly," NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison said. "CID [The Criminal Investigation Department] is investigating."
