Franks continues feeding inmates

The Newton County Board of Commissioners voted to renew the food service contract with Frank's Restaurant for the Newton County Detention Center at their Tuesday night board meeting.
Frank's Restaurant has been providing meals for inmates at the county jail since 1987.
The contact was extended for another year at the current price of $1.75 per meal with the option to renew the contract for an additional three years.
In other BOC news:
• The BOC approved an application for a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant which, if awarded, would provide some funding for the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed residential properties in low and moderate-income areas.
• The board approved the release of a large amount of surplus county property to be sold to the public. Surplus property includes a great deal of information systems equipment and several Chevrolet and Ford trucks.
• A contract for misdemeanor probation services for the Newton County Magistrate and Newton County Probate Courts was renewed with Georgia Corrections Corp. The contract has been renewed until the end of 2009, with an option to renew every year after that.
• Junior Hilliard Services, which have been staffing the county's recycling centers since 1996, had its contract renewed for one year at the current price of $10.49 an hour with the option to renew the contract for an additional three years.
