Homes for the holidays

Few things are more enjoyable than viewing other people’s homes decorated for the holiday season.

Five beautiful and historic homes will be featured on the bi-annual 2008 Covington Candlelight Christmas Tour, sponsored by the Satsuki Garden Club, which takes place Thursday, Dec. 11, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Ticket holders will be able to tour the homes of Denny and Cathy Dobbs of 329 Harold Dobbs Road, Bill Wheeler of 3112 Floyd Street, Trey and Jennifer Long of 4104 Floyd Street, Jonathan and Sallie Paschal of 2207 Conyers Street and Tommy Ballard of 2136 Conyers Street. The building date of the homes range from the 1825 to the early 1900s.

"It’s a great thing for our community," said Pam Pace, chair of the Christmas Tour committee. "All the proceeds from the tickets go right back into Covington and Newton County." The club uses the funds for projects such as the recently completed a serenity garden at the Newton Medical Center, maintaining Kennington Park in Covington and the multi-use Chimney Park behind the Newton County Library.

"And the homeowners are usually very excited to be able to put their home on tour. They know it’s good for the community," Pace said.

Tickets are $10 and available at Spires Interiors, Square Dots, or Covington Cooks, all on the Covington square, or by sending a check to Pam Pace at 3109 Floyd Street, Covington. For more information, call (770) 787-9017 or e-mail satsukigardenclub@yahoo.com.

The Loganville Woman’s Club invites the public to take part in their Christmas Tour of Homes to be held Sunday, Dec. 7, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Choosing a blend of old and new dwellings, the tour will highlight five residences — the homes of Ray and Dianne Beard, Justin and Christy Myers, Chris and Denise Hulen, the restored farmhouse of Johnathan and Rebecca Doggett, Ron and Patty Lenway’s ranch style home.

Proceeds from the tour go to the Woman’s Club commitment to community service in the areas of education, public affairs, conservation and beautification. For more information, call Sandra Johnson at (770) 466-0574 or (770) 490-3746.
