Do you know your work matters to God? Yes, and it matters to your employer and your co-workers.
Your character and conduct are a living witness at work as to who you are as a Christian, even more so than an employee.
No matter what our job (and in today’s market, it may not be the ideal job), we are to do it as unto the Lord.
That’s right; no matter what the job, do it like you’re doing it for God!
Proverbs is full of warnings against the bad qualities and characteristics we should avoid in our working testimony:
• Laziness: (Proverbs 24:30-34; 6:9,10; 13:4; 21:25; 18;9;22:13) This one is slow to start, costly to business, defensive, a quitter and full of excuses.
• Deception: (13:11; 20:17; 25:19) This one cuts corners, cheats his/her employer out an honest day’s work, is bitter and hard to bear and lacks loyalty.
• Greed: (28:22; 11:28; 23:4-5) This one is extremely selfish and all about the money.
Let’s examine ourselves today and see what kind of worker we are and then determine to take Paul’s advice to heart: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23-24).
You can take pride in your work when your work is done right and for the Lord.
