“Where are you at right now?” This is a question I often ask myself. I am not talking about physically; I don’t get lost that often. I am talking about where I am spiritually. Where am I in my relationship with God? I recently received an answer that shook me to my core.

Disclaimer: The following is in no way a geometry lesson. It is an illustration for our lives and our relationship with God.

If you have to lines running side by side, parallel, they will never meet. These lines are in relation. They have a relationship. These lines never meet, they never come together and they are never involved with each other. You just have two lines going on forever without meeting. They may follow a similar path but they NEVER meet.

Now, let’s say you have two lines that meet, these are intersecting lines. These two lines may intersect for a brief time or they could run together for a while. Point is that these two lines have meet and they are now interconnected.

We have parallel and intersecting but we also have one more set of lines to discuss. You have two lines running side by side and then they begin to twist together. These two lines weave in and out of one another. These lines are so connected that they are practically the same line. These lines are connected. These lines are changed.

Let’s apply this to us!

Think about your walk with God. Where are you at right now? Are you simply walking beside him, keeping him at arm’s length? Are you not letting Him get involved with you and your life?

Maybe you have intersected with God. He got involved in your life one time and you thought it was cool for a moment but you don’t need someone dictating your life.

I hope that you are completely intertwined with God and that He is involved with any and every aspect of your life.

When I heard this my mind was blown! I have spent 20 years trying to be in relation with God. I have been trying just to walk beside him. I have been allowing Him to intersect here and there. Now I want to strive to intertwine with God daily. I want God to be involved in everything I do.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This is the perfect example of me leaning on my own understanding. I totally thought I had this whole interaction with God thing down. I always knew that I would keep learning about God but for him to rock my world like this is exactly what I need.

We all get complacent with where we are with God. We should challenge ourselves daily to be intertwined with Him. Our image of God should be changing as our maturity as a Christ-follower grows. C.S. Lewis sums it up best in my opinion, “Images of the Holy easily become holy images -- sacrosanct. My idea of God is not a divine idea. It has to be shattered time after time. He shatters it Himself. He is the great iconoclast. Could we not almost say that this shattering is one of the marks His presence? The Incarnation is the supreme example; it leads all previous idea of the Messiah in ruins.”

We cannot become discouraged by this. We should be challenged to draw closer to God. Jesus himself told us this in John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Hopefully this woke you up the same way it did me. As you do this I encourage you to “take heart” like Christ told us.
