COVINGTON, Ga. - Student and parent volunteers, directed by Newton County Theme School at Ficquett middle school art instructor Melissa Parker, recently painted a beautiful mural for Piedmont Newton Hospital employees and visitors to enjoy. The artists chose a tranquil ocean scene with a setting sun and rolling waves for the hospital’s outdoor dining area.

Piedmont Newton Hospital and the Theme School have been Partners in Education for more than four years. Each fall, the hospital provides resources to the school’s nursing office including gauze, band-aids, thermometer covers, hot and cold packs and other basic first aid supplies. In the spring, members of the hospital’s Auxiliary Board deliver gifts of appreciation for the teachers.

The Newton County School System and Newton County Chamber of Commerce developed the Partners in Education program to reconnect the community with its neighborhood schools.
