COVINGTON, Ga. - This week, Rebecca Keel, RN, a Piedmont Newton Hospital nurse, was awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The recognition is part of a national program honoring nurses for their clinical skills and compassionate care for patient and their families. Keel was nominated by the wife of a patient, whose family was grateful for the exceptional care that Keel provided.

“The DAISY Award honors nurses for providing extraordinary, patient-centered care,” Jeremiah Bame, Piedmont Newton chief nursing officer, said. “The goal at Piedmont Newton is to make a positive difference in every life we touch, and we are so proud of Rebecca for making a positive difference for her patients.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
