Giving Hands Food Pantry hosts fundraiser for summer food insecurity

Did you know that 13% of people go hungry? The Giving Hands Food Pantry is hosting their annual Food for Thought Fundraiser on Saturday, June 7 at Antiques and Stuff to raise money to fight hunger in our community.

Food insecurity is not knowing where your next meal is coming from. And this is a real problem facing 1 out of 8 of our neighbors, family and friends. The Giving Hands Food Pantry, a partner agency of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, serves approximately 250 families each week and that number goes up in the summertime.

During the summer, children are at a higher risk of being food insecure, especially those that rely on school lunches for regular meals. Parents who were already struggling to get by face a greater challenge in the summer months with added meals for their kids at home.

Join the fight against hunger in our community on Saturday, June 7 for the annual Food For Thought Fundraiser on the porch of Antiques and Stuff (2177 Elm Street NE, Covington GA 30014). Book sales will happen from 10am to 2pm and burger sales from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

All proceeds will go towards the purchase of food for the Giving Hands Food Pantry to distribute. Each $1 donated will purchase 13 pounds of food. That’s enough for 3 meals.

The community can also support this effort by donating books. Book donations are accepted until June 5 at Antiques and Stuff between 10am and 5pm. All book genres are welcome, from children’s books to young adult fiction, from nonfiction to cookbooks, from romance to thrillers.

Come by on Saturday, June 7 to purchase your next summer read … for a good cause!
