Alcovy Future Farmers of America (FFA) is offering a day camp at the Newton College & Career Academy center this summer.

The Aggie Academy is for children from kindergarten through fifth grade. The camp will teaches them about agriculture and each day, students learn about nature, animals, plants and wildlife.

According to Catrina Pollard, one of the camp’s leaders, the Aggie Academy is enjoyable for kids because it provides, hand on activities, outdoor playing, arts and crafts, and games. “Since the camp is agricultural base, it is not just focused on one topic, kids get to learn more each day of all the facets of agriculture”, she said.

“We are not like regular camps,” Pollard said. “We do things a little bit differently. Since our camp is all about agriculture, every activity the kids do each day they get to learn about it. So these activities become a way for the kids to learn more about what they are dealing with.”

Pollard also noted, they like to keep it group size to 10 or less, adding groups as registration numbers increase. We do this so that our participants have individual attention from our group leaders. We take participants during the week but if you want to be guaranteed your shirt size then we need your reservation 2 weeks prior.

This year’s Aggie Academy took place June 13 through 17. Next year, the academy will be held June 5 through 9.
