Mary (MeMe) Bates, 90, of Newborn, died Aug. 14 at Abbey Hospice, Social Circle. The daughter of the late Harvey Digby and Vallie Aikens, she was born in 1917 in Jasper County. Ms. Bates was retired from Covington Molding as a quality control inspector. She was a member of Gaithers Church and loved all animals and her flowers. Ms. Bates will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by son Wallace Bates.

Surviving are sons Melvin Bates of Newborn, Richard Jordan, Billy Jordan, Phillip Jordan, Douglas Jordan; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 16 in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with the Rev. Jim Sizemore officiating. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
