Mr. Howard Phillips Milligan, 69, of Oxford, died May 30. Mr. Milligan, a life-long resident of Newton County, was the son of the late William Howard and Jane Phillips Milligan. He was formerly the co-owner of Red & White Grocery Store in Covington and the owner of the Red & white Grocery in Social Circle. He loved to fish and especially enjoyed his boats.
Surviving are children Margie Day of Oxford, Tonia Coble, Denise Southern, David Milligan, all of Greensborough, N.C., Tiffiny Barfield and Flip Milligan, both of Oxford; sister and brother-in-law Jo and Gene Weatherup of Brooks; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Catherine Milligan of Salem, Ala.; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, June 1, in the chapel of Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. James Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home June 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Joseph's Hospital, 5665 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30342.
