Guy V. (Vincent) Evans

Guy V. (Vincent) Evans, 82, of Covington, died Sept. 12. The son of the late James Henry and Mary E. McKee Evans, he was born in Moreland in 1925. Mr. Evans served in World War II in the Army Air Force as an engineer on a B-24. After graduating in 1950 from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy, he purchased a drug store on the Square in Covington and operated Evans Drug Store until 1977.

Mr. Evans was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington where he taught Sunday school and served on the Board of Deacons for many years. He was a founding director of First National Bank of Newton County (now First Nation Bank) and served on the board of directors for 25 years. Mr. Evans was a member of the Covington Kiwanis Club, American Legion and Covington Elks Club. He was past president of the Newton County chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Trustees of George Walton Academy for five years and six years on the Covington City Council. He was a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association and the National Association of Retail Druggists for 50 years. Mr. Evans had been in declining health for the past few years.

Surviving are wife of 58 years Rebecca Hicks Evans; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Cliff Blanchard of St. Cloud, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law Cindi and G. Vincent Evans Jr., of Conyers, Barbara and James H. Evans of Conroe, Texas; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, with the Rev. J. J. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, today, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1139 Usher St., Covington, 30014.
