Young Americans girls soccer take home state crown

CONYERS, Ga. — The Young Americans Christian School girls soccer team took home the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association (GICAA) state crown on May 5 after beating previously undefeated Sherwood Christian School 2-0 in the championship game. 

The team is coached by Rodney Barnes and Kelly Vigon, and Vigon wasn’t shy about expressing joy for the team’s triumph. The team is coached by Rodney Barnes and Kelly Vigon.

 “I am very proud of the team,” said Vigon. “We had a strong and tough defense and smart, hard working midfield. They worked extremely well as a team. We are only losing one senior and are looking forward to next season already.” 

The leading goal scorers for the season were Carlie Johnson with 32 goals and eight assists and also Emma Edge with 18 goals and 13 assists.

Both Young Americans soccer programs had great 2017 campaigns, as this year the boys soccer team also finishing as state runners-ups.
