Each of Newton's two games this season have been decided by late scores.
Both have been dramatic and both have been hard played. However, one was a loss (to Eastside in the opener), and the other a win.
Newton literally needed the entire game to pull off an upset at No. 3 Lowndes (ranked by Score Atlanta), winning 15-14 at Martin Stadium Friday.
The Rams were trailing 14-9 as they drove down field. On third down Lowndes committed a pass interference penalty, giving Newton another chance, and a closer shot at the end zone. The Rams took advantage of that shot as Romario Johnson threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Davonta Jones as time expired.
Newton will have a week to let the win soak in, before traveling back to South Georgia to face Valdosta Sept. 20.
Eastside wins
Eastside continued its early season offensive output, beating Jacking 49-28 on the road Friday.
The Eagles have now scored 83 points in their two games of the 2013 season. The Eagles opened the year with a 34-28 win over Newton, and look to clinch the county championship, when they play Alcovy Friday.
Alcovy completes sweep
Alcovy made it a win for each Newton County high school football team Friday, defeating Perry 21-10 at Sharp Stadium Friday.
