GULFPORT, Miss. — The Newton County All-Stars 10u and 8u teams left day one of competition at the United States Speciality Sports Association World Series unscathed Wednesday.
The 8u team defeated a squad from Livingston (Louisiana) 8-3 and followed that victory up with a 15-0 triumph over St. James (Louisiana). Meanwhile, the 10u squad beat ABC (Louisiana) 18-4, and won its 6:45 p.m. game against LPR Rampage.
After Thursday’s games were rained out, the All-Stars squads took to the field again twice on Friday with similar results. The 8u squad defeated SBBA Hot Shots 18-3, and the 10u squad routed LPR Rampage 22-7.
In the second set of games, the 8u All-Stars Live Oak (Louisiana) 10-1, while the 10u squad bested Monticello (Arkansas) 7-3. Both squads moved on to play semifinals games on Saturday, and at press time the results of those games were not yet available. Saturday wins would qualify the All-Stars teams to the USSSA World Series championship games on Sunday.
