This week's Spring Sports calendar full of baseball teams trying to get 'right'
AlcovyBaseball
The Alcovy Tigers are among the local baseball teams trying to bounce back from finishing on the short end of last week's sereis play.

Eastside baseball will be looking to bounce back from a challenging series against region leading Woodward Academy where the Eagles went 1-2 against the War Eagles. After two narrow losses to Woodward, Eastside finally had a game without inexplicable errors and overly questionable officiating, and won 4-2.

Now, the Eagles start a three game stint with Henry County (3-6, 2-4 in Region 4-AAAA) this week, playing two of the games on the road.

Meanwhile, Alcovy will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak when it visits Groveton (10-9, 3-6 in Region 2-AAAAAA) Monday to kick off a trio of games with the Warriors.  Meanwhile, the Newton Rams are in a similar place, having lost seven straight. Newton’s last win came in a 5-3 triumph over Murray County back on March 4.

Granted, the Rams are just coming out of two series with the top two squads in Region 8-AAAAAAA, but Newton coach Andre Byrd will be looking for more than just a win as his Rams travel to Shiloh (5-15, 0-6 in Region 8-AAAAAAA) on Monday night. Byrd will be looking for some offense.

Since the Murray County game, Newton’s bats have been anemic, tallying just seven runs in the last seven games, three of which came in a 7-3 loss to Pickens on March 4.

Here’s where each Newton County squad falls in the region standings:
