Just because it’s not officially football season, doesn’t mean the Indian Creek Middle School team isn’t hard at work.
The feeder school for Alcovy and Eastside High Schools has been hard at work lifting weights, and participating in 7-on-7 passing camps.
Wednesday, Indian Creek participated in the Kennedy Road Middle School’s 7-on-7 camp in Spalding County. One week later, this Wednesday, the Newton County middle school will return the favor. Indian Creek Middle School will welcome Kennedy Road and Carver Road Middle schools for its own 7-on-7 camp, starting at 10 a.m. at Eastside High.
Indian Creek Middle School coach Brian Nunn said the Panthers are the only team in the area, that participates in summer workouts.
With the small numbers available for competition, Nunn takes the team to other counties’ middle schools in order to get his players more prepared for tryouts, early season practices and the season opener.
“It has helped us out since I’ve been head coach,” Nunn said.
Nunn helped lead the Panthers to an 8-0 record in 2012, and has provided the Alcovy Tigers and Eastside Eagles with their own future athletes.
The Panthers participating in Indian Creek’s 7-on-7 camps are: Will Smith, Jaylon Lackey, Trey Smith, Levi Spurling, Zack Glover, Antavious Cobb, Justin Burroughs, Dejuan Miller, Scott Avery, Brayden Harper, John Surber, Basil Stone, Justin Daffinson, Jerry Mays Jr., Jarius Anthony, Blake Wilder, Jared Tellis, Zach Mosley, Rykell Alexander, Spurgeon Gaither and Clayton Carter.
All the participating players are skills position players (wide receiver, running back or receivers), and Nunn is trying to find his starting quarterback from among three, Harper, Surber and Cobb.
