STATE WRESTLING: Eastside, Newton grapplers find success in state tournament's first round

MACON, Ga. — It was a good first day at the state traditional wrestling tournament for Newton County’s grapplers. 

Three of Eastside’s five competitors won by pins during day one of Class AAAA competition. Those wrestlers were Austin Wilson, Will Gaither and Seth Martin. 

Gaither pinned Cedartown’s Roy Tracy in the 152 pound weight class, while Martin pinned Jerry Dobbyn of Madison County in 195 pounds. 

Christion Curry won by a 2-0 decision in the heavyweight division, while Zack Cason was eliminated in the 120 pound weight class. 

Newton’s Micah Bryant won by a 4-3 decision in his first consolation round. 

Thursday’s action in Class AAAA will commence with weigh-ins at 10:45 a.m. and quarterfinals matchups beginning at 12:45 p.m. Class AAAAAAA weigh-ins begin at 1:30 p.m., with quarterfinals matchups starting at 3:30 p.m. 

Class AAAA wrestlebacks for round two are slated for a 5 p.m. start in Class AAAA and a 6:30 p.m. start in Class AAAAAAA.
