Softball highlights week ahead

After an exciting week of Newton County sports action, the Tigers, the Eagles and the Rams gear up for another busy week as the fall sports schedule hits its stride.

Softball dominates county action this week, with seven scheduled games between the three schools.
Alcovy begins the week with a rivalry game against Newton on the road at 5 p.m. before hosting Morrow at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The Tigers will also compete in a pair of volleyball contests, traveling to Norcross on Tuesday. Alcovy hosts Union Grove in volleyball action on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Alcovy closes the week at Homer Sharp Stadium against Eastside in the county's lone football contest.
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Eastside schedule
The Eagles kick off their schedule this week with a pair of games on Tuesday, traveling to Lanier at 4:30 p.m. for junior varsity and varsity softball games.

Eastside will host Madison County on the same day in a volleyball match slated for 5 p.m.

The two teams switch places on Thursday, with the softball program hosting Stephens at 5:30 p.m. while the volleyball team travels to Stockbridge for a 5 p.m. start.

The Eagles end the week at home against Alcovy for a chance to win the county football championship.

The Tigers bested the Eagles 24-10 last season.

Newton softball
The Newton softball team hosts a pair of games this week, taking on Alcovy on Tuesday and Putnam on Wednesday.
Both games will begin at 5 p.m.

The softball team will also travel to Luella for a 5:30 p.m. contest on Thursday.

The Rams' volleyball team will also be in action this week on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Norcross.
