COVINGTON, Ga. — In all, 20 Newton County soccer players graced the rosters of their respective All-Region teams, with Eastside leading the way with 10 all-region performers between its girls and boys squads.
Of the 20, 10 were considered first-team all-region. From Alcovy it was junior forward Kaliya Eutsey for the Lady Tigers and defender Conrad Martin for the boys. Eutsey scored a team-leading 29 goals for Alcovy Newton’s Tariq Davis was the lone Ram to make the Region 8-AAAAAAA roster. Davis set a single-season school record for goals scored with 26.
For the Eastside boys it was seniors Jackson Gann, Jackson Jolley and Zach Glover joining freshman Jordan Beam. Camille Johnson, Elizabeth Ozburn and freshman Aralyn Everett garnered first-team honors for the Lady Eagles.
Other all-region accolades went to Alcovy girls’ Baylea Payne and Sydney Ziglar, who recorded 20 goals and 20 assists in the 2018 season, and boys’ team members Andrew Tamayo (second team) and Jordan Evans (honorable mention), Eastside’s Tyler Davis and Kade Mote (2nd Team All-Region 4-AAAA) and Malaya Yamasaki (second Team) for the girls and Newton players Donta Grayson, TJ Mason and Alec Daily all making second team.
Additionally, Gann, Glover and Davis were all named to the Divarsity All-State team. The three players named marks a record for most Eastside players tabbed for the all-state roster. The Eagles’ trio will play in the DiVarsity Georgia High School All-Star game on Saturday May 19 at Sprayberry High in Marietta.
