COVINGTON, Ga. — The Airo 7v7 football tournament held Thursday at Walnut Grove High School will have a heavy Newton County feel, as all three County GHSA schools — Alcovy, Eastside and Newton — are expected to compete.
The tournament will be part of a milt-site competition to crown the Airo 7v7 State Champion in a one-day event that begins with team registration at 8 a.m. and the first set of games slated to start at 9:30 a.m.
By the end of the day, Airo will crown the tournament’s winner.
Alcovy will enter on a 7v7 tournament hot streak, as the Tigers have turned in impressive performances at its first two 7v7 outings — including a fourth place finish at the 32-team Cam Newton 7v7 and a third place finish last week at the Kirby Smart 7v7 in Athens.
Alcovy, Eastside and Newton all boast speed and experience at their skill positions — the kind of talent which passing league-style tournament accentuate.
