The opening round of the state playoffs in softball begin this week. All three Newton County high schools have teams that are competing in the big dance on Wednesday and possibly Thursday.

Alcovy has claimed the No. 1 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA and will host Westlake at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader in a best-of-three series beginning at 4:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.

Newton is the No. 2 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA and will host Newnan on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Eastside beat Hampton one week ago to claim the No. 3 seed in Region 4-AAAA and will travel to Cook County tomorrow for a best-of-three series.
