CONYERS, Ga. — The Newton Rams baseball team bounced back against Region 8-AAAAAAA rival Rockdale in a major way Wednesday night, blanking the Bulldogs 6-0 just 24 hours after falling 8-2 in a closer-than-the-score-indicated region opener.
Newton’s Justin Landreau threw a complete game, three-hit shutout while striking out five en route to giving first-year head coach James Jackson his first region win. At the plate, the Rams were bolstered by Bailey Barbus who went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. Landreau also drove in a run, as did JD Coltharp.
The Rams’ lone senior, Khalil Wilcox, also an Alabama A&M signee, finished 1 for 2 at the plate, but he also swiped three bags in the game.
Newton (2-8, 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAAAA) will host the series-deciding game Friday with first pitch slated for 5:55 p.m.
