The Newton track and field team has made its way into the history books.

For the first time ever, both the boys and girls team have won regionals and moved on to state. On April 19, the girls won back-to-back 2-AAAAAA championships while breaking the record for the fastest time in the 400-meter relay with a time of 47.19 and the 1600-meter in 4:00.

The boys team currently ranks No. 1 in the nation in the 1600-meter relay and No. 2 in the 400-meter.

Both teams competed in the state sectionals April 30, where 11 athletes finished in the Top 8 and qualified for state. Names of the athletes are listed in the table below.

The girls GHSA track state finals will be held on May 5-7 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Georgia, and the boys GHSA track state finals will be held in Jefferson, Georgia on May 12-14.
