Local athletes qualify for regionals

The Southeast Striders Track and Field Club of Covington will travel to the USA Track and Field (USATF) Jr. Olympic Regionals in Rockhill, South Carolina between July 3 and July 6.


In order to participate in regionals, the athletes had to qualify at the state Jr. Olympics that were held at Carrollton High School June 19 through June 22. The following athletes that qualified for regionals are:

Ben Kennedy (18 years of age). Kennedy took second in the javelin event. He also qualified in the long and triple jump.

Demarshae Travis (13 years old). Travis placed third in the long jump and eighth in the 100-meter.

Alexis Hardy (13 years old). Hardy placed third in the triple jump.

Keira Pacemann (10 years old). Placed third in discus, sixth in shot.
Reece Burton (13 years old). Fifth in javelin. He also qualified in high jump.
Patrick Murray (13 years old). Qualified in high jump.

Zoey Taylor (11 years old). Fourth in discus.

Summer Holtz (11 years old). Qualified in the 80-meter hurdles and the 800-meter.

Aliyah Williams (11 years old). Qualified for 80-meter hurdles.

Younger Burton (10 years old). Fifth in shot put, also placed in mini javelin.

Darrell Jefferson (13), Murray, Burton and Travis took seventh in the 13/14 boys’ 1600-meter relay.
