The Dixie Youth Baseball District tournament was a five-team double elimination bracket which included two Newton County teams (the National Division and the Southern Division) along with teams from Warner Robbins, Jasper County and Taylor County. The Newton National's team run through the bracket included a 12-1 win against Jasper County, 13-2 vs. Warner Robbins and 8-3 against Taylor County. The championship game included another victory over Taylor County 16-3. Great pitching, strong defensive play and a powerful lineup could make the Newton National team very competitive at the State tournament.
The Newton Nationals, Taylor County and the Newton Southern team will all advance to the Dixie Youth Major State 16 team tournament at City Pond from July 17 to July 25.
The National squad is coached by Mike Bloodworth, Denny Hewell and Lee Parish. The players are Collin Fleming, A.J. Howard, Alex Parish, Austin Richardson, Blake Shope, Lane Moorehead, Chase Gilstrap, Hunter Phillips, Trevor Simmons, Levi Jordan, Jerry Bloodworth and Conner Hewell.
