Harrison Norman is one of four siblings. Of the four, it took Harrison Norman the longest to figure out which sport was right for him, but it seems being a professional angler is where his heart is - and his talent.

Nicole Norman, Harrison Norman’s mom, said that she and her husband encourage their four children to play sports. Their eldest son plays football, their eldest daughter plays softball and their second oldest daughter played soccer and cheered. Harrison Norman? Well, he’s different.

Over the weekend, Harrison Norman of Covington, competed at The Bass Federation 2014 Junior World Championships in Columbia, South Carolina after winning the Georgia Bass Federation State Championship.

The Bass Federation Junior World Championships invites the top two anglers from each state across the nation, one for the 11-14 age group and one for the 15-18 age group, to compete for top angler supremacy annually.

The event consist of two days: day one is where the anglers compete to determine division champs and on day two the division champions go head to head to compete for the world championship title.

Harrison Norman competed in the 11-14 age group. He won his division on day one and finished tied for fifth place in the world championships on day two. With Harrison’s top-12 finish, he won a $200 scholarship.

“We are beyond proud of Harrison and this accomplishment,” Nicole Norman said. “He fishes hard and has career goals that involve fishing Of course he would love to be a professional angler but there are other avenues that he is looking into.”

Nicole Norman added that Harrison Norman would like to fish at the college level and he is hoping for a scholarship in that.
Harrison Norman started off fishing with his father. The outdoors is where they bond, as the two hunt and fish together.

It took Harrison Norman a while to find the sport that's right for him, but after winning a state championship, a South Division title and placing fifth in the world championships, it looks like fishing is the sport for him.
