The Newton County Recreation Commission Division II Hurricanes shut out the Jackets Monday night at Wolverine Field, winning 21-0.

The Hurricanes scored a pair of second-half touchdowns after carrying a 6-0 lead into halftime.

With a one-score lead heading into the second half, the Hurricanes needed just under two minutes to find the end zone for the second time in the game.

On their opening drive of the half, the Jackets fumbled the ball into the hands of the Hurricanes' Jannard Bell. Bell scooped up the loose ball for a 38-yard touchdown return.

Christian Benson ran the ball in for a successful 2-point conversation, giving the Hurricanes a 13-0 lead with 23:04 left in the game.

The Hurricanes' final score came with 12:17 left in the contest, as M.J. Stroud scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. Will Cawthon added the 2-point conversion on the ground, as the Hurricanes increased their lead to 21-0.

The Jackets threatened the Hurricanes' shut out on their final drive of the game, driving their way to the Hurricanes' 25 yard line on a Dale Davis pass to Deonte Bruno. The Jackets were knocked back to the Hurricanes' 33-yard line, but a face mask penalty set the Jackets up inside the Hurricnes' 25-yard line with under a minute to go.

Despite the Jackets' late push, they were unable to find the end zone on their final drive, securing the shut out for Miami.
