Holiday tournaments ahead

While many athletes will spend their winter breaks resting, basketball programs around Newton County will hit the hardwood for holiday tournaments.

The Newton Lady Rams will tip off holiday action on Dec. 26, traveling to Colquitt County for the annual Colquitt Regional Medical Center Christmas Shoot Out.

The Lady Rams will open play next Thursday against Crisp County at 4 p.m., before facing Colquitt County on Friday and Tift County on Saturday.

The Rams boys varsity basketball team will make a short drive to Walton County as it takes part in the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament.

Newton will face Monroe Area in the opening game on Dec. 27 at 11 a.m., with games on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 yet to be determined.

The Eastside Eagles boys and girls varsity basketball programs will compete at the same holiday event, traveling to Greene County High School for the James McKithen Holiday Classic.

The Lady Eagles will square off against Thompson on Dec. 27 in the first round of the tournament at 4 p.m.

The boys' draw has yet to be announced.

Cross Creek High School will also participate in the tournament.

Finally, the Alcovy Tigers boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Duluth for the Duluth Jingle Jam Holiday Tournament.

Tournament action will begin on Dec. 27.

Jingle Jam Holiday Tournament games had not been scheduled as of press time.
