Games rescheduled due to inclement weather

Due to frigid weather throughout the Southeast, Tuesday night games throughout Newton County were canceled or rescheduled.

The Eastside Eagles, scheduled to travel to Monroe Area Tuesday night for basketball contests, canceled their games against the Purple Hurricanes. A makeup date had not been scheduled as of press time.

The Newton Rams' contests against Rockdale County scheduled for Tuesday night were rescheduled for tonight.

The Rams will take on the Bulldogs in region action at Newton tonight at 6 p.m. The meeting is the first between the Rams and the Bulldogs this season. Last year, the Rams were swept by the Bulldogs 65-50 and 62-48.

The Rams enter tonight's contest with an 11-3 record, winning two of their last three games, while the Bulldogs have struggled this season, winning just four games entering tonight's contest. The Bulldogs have won three of their last four contests, including a pair of games against East Coweta and Valley (Alabama) at the Toyota Classic during the holiday break.

The Newton girls varsity basketball team defeated the Lady Bulldogs twice a season ago, downing Rockdale County 75-69 and 75-55.

Tonight, the Lady Rams look to hold home court and pick up their ninth win of the season, while the Lady Bulldogs hope to win their first contest in 20 days since defeating Creekside at the Washington County Christmas Classic.
Wednesday and Friday night games have not been affected by the weather.

In Rockdale County, the Salem Seminoles' Tuesday night games against Gainesville were rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m., while the Heritage Patriots will host Apalachee tonight at 6 p.m.
