Eastside and Alcovy renew their rivalry for the second time this season on Saturday beginning at 5 p.m.

The Lady Eagles enter the early contest off back-to-back wins over Johns and North Oconee, defeating the Lady Titans 42-33 in their last contest Jan. 25.

Alcovy also enters on a hot streak, winning two of its last three contests with victories over Druid Hills and Morrow.

Eastside defeated the Lady Tigers 51-46 in their first meeting this season, limiting Alcovy to nine points in the opening quarter as Eastside built up a 12-0 lead. Alcovy battled back, however, taking a 45-42 lead with less than three minutes to go in the game.

The Lady Tigers missed their final five shots of the game, allowing Eastside to go on a 9-1 run to close the contest.
Zaria Barton led Eastside with 13 points, while Ayanna Wimbush paced Alcovy with 22.

The Eastside boys varsity basketball team had an easier time against Alcovy in their first meeting this season, taming the Tigers 58-28.

Treyvon Francis scored 13 points in limited action in the Eagles' 30-point win.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround after traveling to Lanier Friday night, but if they can keep the win streak alive on the road, Eastside would enter Saturday's contest with 13 consecutive victories. The Eagles have not lost since falling to Newton on Dec. 13.

The Tigers are looking for traction after dropping their last three contests.

Alcovy has defeated just one team this season, picking up a pair of wins over Druid Hills to enter Saturday's game with a 2-18 overall record.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m., with the girls contest beginning at 4 p.m.

While the Eagles and Tigers are set to renew their rivalry, another local rivalry clash has been put on hold due to inclement weather.

Newton and Rockdale County's second clash of the season will have to wait just as bit longer, as tonight's regularly schedule match up has been postponed.

A make up date for the contest has not yet been set.

The Lady Rams defeated Rockdale County 56-45 earlier this season, while the Newton Boys came away with a 65-49 victory over the Bulldogs in their first match up this season.

The postponement is the second game to be rescheduled for Newton this week.

Newton rescheduled its Tuesday night game with Luella after the game was canceled due to inclement weather.

The game has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m.
