COVINGTON, Ga. — The Eastside boys golf team got off to a hot start in its season by winning a pair of matches against Jackson in a span of 24 hours.

The Eagles scored a 174-233 win against  Wednesday in what coach Jay Cawthon called “tough, cold and windy conditions.” In that match, sophomore Griffin Autry and senior Landon Farill each shot a 39, while senior Gess Connor and freshman Will Harrell shot a 45 and 51, respectively.

It was a good follow-up to Tuesday’s season opener against Jackson where Eastside achieved a 160-212 result in its first match.

Autry again led the Eagles by shooting a 37, while Farill and senior Curtis Broadnax shot a 38 and 42 respectively, and Harrell scored a 43. The Eagles will face both Union Grove and Locust Grove today at Heron Bay in Locust Grove. With temps scheduled to be near 70, conditions may be more favorable at Heron. Thereafter, Eastside will be off until Monday when it host Locust Grove at Ashton Hills.

The Lady Eagles also came up victorious against Jackson, scoring a 151-157 win, also on Wednesday.

In other Eastside spring sports news, both boys and girls tennis squads bested Social Circle, with the Lady Eagles taking a 5-0 victory and the boys squeezing out a 3-2 result. Eastside hosts Luella today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m.
